Awards

Shall determine our Club’s award eligibility in various areas, coordinate and compile the books of evidence and submit them to the Garden Club of NJ for consideration of State awards.

Civic Beautification & Environment

Shall be actively involved in improving and beautifying local areas in conjunction with area officials.  This shall include landscaping, growing, planting, designing or any related activities in an area the Club has designated to beautify.  In addition, members will circulate to the Club and the public, ideas for “going green”.

Flower Design

Shall be responsible for creating a theme for the design arrangements at regular meetings as well as securing designer for them.  Will also critique arrangements based upon Flower Show guidelines and rules.  Members” at large comments and questions are also welcome at this time.

Garden Therapy

Shall endeavor to stimulate interest in garden therapy among Club members; shall oversee continuing Club projects at local institutions and county programs.  Shall be responsible for requests from the State Garden Therapy Club Chairperson.

History

Shall keep all records and files of the Club’s past activities, including photographs, awards, publicity and all memorabilia pertaining to the Club’s past history.

Horticulture

Shall oversee the maintenance of the High Bridge Emergency Squad Building gardens and any continuing Club horticulture projects.  Shall share, educate and encourage members on garden techniques and new and better plants.  Shall facilitate the exchange of plants at our June member exchange and shall arrange members’ garden tours.  Shall in every way stimulate interest in the purpose of the Club.

Hospitality

Shall oversee the host/hostess and supplies for monthly meetings. Shall secure a substitute host/hostess if the host/hostess is unable to serve at the monthly meeting. Host/Hostess shall be in charge of the Club’s related equipment and supplies. The first name listed each month (in bold and italics) denotes the person in charge for that month.

Membership

Shall advertise for new members, distribute application forms to and oversee the integration of prospective members into Club meetings and activities. Shall notify candidates of election to membership, including with this notice a copy of the yearbook.  Shall call prospective candidates for membership prior to all meetings and activities to invite them to attend and keep them informed of the meeting and the Club agenda. Shall see that all new members are assigned to committees and take attendance at all meetings and activities.  Membership shall call members after two (2) unexplained absences to inquire why the member has not been attending meetings.  Shall assist Hospitality to plan for New Member Luncheon in September.

Nominating Committee

Shall consist of three (3) members who rotate through on alternating years, with each member serving a three –year term.  The member serving in their third year will Chair the committee.

Program Committee

Shall set up programs for the year and engage speakers, making all the necessary arrangements including fees, transportation, staging and having everything ready for the speaker’s arrival.  They shall notify Publicity for newspaper coverage as applicable, introduce the speaker and send a note of thanks after the meeting.

Publicity

Shall have charge of all newspapers, magazine and poster publicity as well as printed materials, programs, tickets, etc.  Shall endeavor to make the community aware of all upcoming meetings and events.

Scholarship Committee

Shall encourage continuing education in the fields of horticulture, agriculture, conservation, or any related areas by giving monies to worthy candidates.  Shall solicit local schools for applicants, determine eligibility, need and choose the winners of scholarships.

Sunshine Committee

Shall be responsible for sending cards and flowers as appropriate to Club members as directed by the President.  The membership has been divided into five (5) “Care Groups” or clusters of members living near one another.  This will aid in the delivery of items to members.

Telephone Chain Committee

Shall make telephone call to the membership at the request of the President to give them important information between meetings.  They shall remind members of the next meeting and any special information or equipment that they will need.

Ways and Means Committee

Shall determine ways and means in which to create revenue for the Club, and shall direct members in these endeavors.  HHGC fundraising for the 2008-2009 Club year will consist of a Fall and Christmas bulb sale, a Garden Tour, and cookbook proceeds.  With the exception of those members not physically able, all members are expected to assist in the above-mentioned fundraisers.  All Club programs and activities are dependent upon these revenues.

Yearbook

Shall type, copy and distribute the Club yearbook to all Hunterdon Hills Garden Club members
