Monthly Meeting Schedule for September 2010 through June 2011

September 8  
"Traditional Design by Bev Scaff and Sandy  Birkenmeier."  A demonstration on traditional floral design by our own Design Chairs.

October 6  
“Trick or Treat” & “Harvest Time.” Traditional triangular and line mass juried design competitions for club members.  Also  “Fall Flourish” Juried Horticulture exhibits in four categories (annuals; perennials; ornamental grasses, sedges & rushes; berried shrubs & trees).

November 3 
Auction of member-donated new or nearly new items to benefit local &/or national organizations of related interest.

December 1  
Holiday Luncheon and Holiday Horticulture Workshop.

January 5  
“Design, from Traditional to Creative.” Florence Leyssene will demonstrate and speak  on creative design and will also judge this month's design competitions  “Winter Wonderland” & "Icy Magic."

February 2 
“Design Strategies from Great Gardens.” Rich Pomerantz is a published author/photographer whose work has been seen in Gardening magazine, Frommer's Travel Guides, Garden Design, Traditional Home, and more. Rich has also published three books:  Wild Horses of the Dunes, Great Gardens of the Berkshires, and Hudson River Valley Farms, which will be available for purchase.       

March 2 
“Pitcher Plants and Bladderworts.” Robin Jess from Edison, NJ is a botanical illustrator and lecturer. Her work has appeared at the New York Botanical Gardens and in the Audubon Field Guides. She has a particular interest in the Pinelands.   

April 6 
“Designing Women.”  Marta McDowell lives, writes and gardens in Chatham, NJ. Her writing has appeared in Fine Gardening, The New York Times, Hortus and more. Marta teaches landscape history and preservation at the New York Botanical Gardens and Drew University and is the author of Emily Dickinson's Gardens, published in 2005.
 
May 4 
“Dancing around the Maypole” & “Garden Treasures.” Creative design competition incorporating pedestals. Also,  “Merry May,”  three categories of horticulture exhibits.  This meeting will also cover plans and assignments for the May 21 garden tour and plant sale.

June 1 
Annual luncheon (for members only) with design & horticulture awards.
