The mission of the Demarest Garden Club is to promote and encourage the exchange of horticultural knowledge, to foster interest in gardening, flower arranging, and conservation, and to promote horticultural projects throughout the community.

Activities

Monthly Programs:  In addition to learning from each other, we invite local and regional experts to give garden-related programs, slide presentations and demonstrations.

Activities:  During the year we run garden-related workshops. We also volunteer at our two major ongoing civic projects: the Davies Arboretum and the plantings at the Historic Demarest Railroad Station.

Outings:  To expand our knowledge and just have fun, we take several outings to local private and public gardens, garden shows, and conservation related programs.

Davies Arboretum:  Currently the Club maintains and develops the Davies Arboretum and Wildlife Preserve, an 18 acre Green Acres site and the plantings at the Historic Demarest Railroad Station.

Floral Design: We promote floral design by hosting several in-house mini flower shows and list large local floral exhibits to visit.  Our floral design tips will improve your skills.

Conservation: We encourage the education and activism of members by providing conservation tips for garden and everyday living.

Garden Therapy: Club volunteers make mini floral tray favors for the Meals on Wheels program for delivery with meals to homebound neighbors.

Plant Sale:  Each May, we sell plants on a “pre-order” basis from a local area grower that include the latest annuals and perennials on the market.  The proceeds from this sale fund the rest of the club's activities. Included in this sale are material propagated from members’ gardens.
